description: Similar to many previously blue-collar US cities, Portland, Mainehas been experiencing gentrification for the past several decades.A current low-income area that includes multiple social servicesin multiple buildings has now been targeted by developers. Existing social services are a vital part of the community, but as a different population moves in, these services are at risk of being displaced. A visible and engaging exterior community space brings the existing and new population together, and ties the space to other services, while creating a network using a shared architectural language.
