description: Centralia a coal town in Pennsylvania has been going through this catastrophic transformation from a coal fire that has been burning for over 50 years. Since this active weathering and decay is occurring, we can re-imagine the possibilities that these transformations hold on this lost landscape. Weathering can be thought of as a verb to empower people by shifting and engaging time on a more human scale. Weathering can then have its effect to bring understanding throughout the site; through the traces of the past revealing the impacts and evoking stories that have occurred in order to transform the way we understand and experience the site. This site can be transformed into a more haptic built environment and landscape bringing a new meaning to what we consider a National Park to be, allowing people to experience the last coal generation throughout their journey as Centralia is constantly evolving around them. As the last flame burns out coal will have depleted from the earth no longer having its hold, allowing Centralia to breathe new life into the rebuilding of this lost town for many generations to come.
