description: This thesis will explore history's influence on our existing architectural discourse and the issues that have arisen from it in order to understand how the infusion of biological systems into architecture may bring about a paradigm shift in the ways we consume and habitate space. The influence of language and its relationship to the perception of our place in the biosphere will be investigated to identify the crucial issues in society. This information will be used to backup the ways in which living systems may begin to mend our disjointed culture through a shift in the architectural paradigm. Living systems and biological materials will be used in several design tests to illustrate how variations of self-sustaining systems can be implemented at different scales, then interpreted in order to understand the implications for each one. The possibilities and potentials of this technology will then be theorized for the future of architecture and its societal impacts.
