description: The element of time has a powerful effect on architecture. It can influence history or completely destroy a building. Ruins are frozen in time, the stillness, a compelling allure for architects, writers, and historians. Such writers include Brian Dillon and Rose Macaylay who both see the pictureqsue [sic] potential that ruins give to the modern world. An example of a ruin in this stare is located on Roosevelt Island in Manhattan. The island was a place of promise to maintain the health of New York City. The fragment of history that still remains is Renwick Ruin. In decaying isolation, the ruin is currently fenced in, with the surrounding landscape being heavily developed for an evoling [sic] future. There is a disconnect between the ruin and the surrounding changes. The current condition of the ruin is unpredicable [sic]. There is a disconnect between the ruin and the surrounding changes. Ruins house a potential to create a montage of experience using the past and present moments of the site. The admiration for fragmented history presents opportunity to build with the decay in order to adapt for the future.
