description: Balancing supply and demand of electric power for a university in an urban environment is challenging, especially to optimize for cost and sustainability. This project is developing models to simulate supply and demand for Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. Energy supply includes the utility grid, on-campus fossil fuel generators and on-campus solar panels. Energy demand involves academic, administrative, athletic, and residential facilities for climate control, lighting, laboratories, food services, security and other functions. The simulation explored added capacity for solar panels and energy storage. Such modeling and analysis may lead to insights that would help to rebalance supply and demand, and increase renewable energy capacity.
