description: This thesis focuses on architecturalizing the geological landscape by utilizing actions of carving and layering. The site lies between a suburban neighborhood and the Indiana State Veteran’s Home, both of which do not interact with the other and are physically disconnected from the landscape. I am introducing one cohesive building, that is pulled into three specialized pavilions. The landscape is the connecting layer that allows each individual pavilion to act as a unified landscape intervention. The first pavilion is the educational pavilion, geared towards the education of young children from the nearby neighborhoods. They are allowed to explore the landscape by moving through the pavilion itself then continuing on to the second pavilion. The second pavilion is the intergenerational center. This is the central hub of activity within this intervention. It is the place where the elderly from the Indiana State Veterans’ Home and the neighborhood children come together. Research has shown that the interaction between older and younger generations benefit cognitive learning and overall happiness. By moving through the landscape, these two previously disassociated places are now connected. The third pavilion is the resting pavilion. It offers a place for the elderly to get away from the rigidity of the Veterans home and sit peacefully and observe their surroundings.Looking through the different scales of this project, the landscape becomes the center of the relationship between people and people, and people and place. Interacting directly with the landscape facilitates learning about a place and offers a new platform to connect different generations.
