description: Resistors are passive electrical components that are designed and manufactured with colored bands drawn on them. These color bands can be decoded to tell the user the resistors theoretical resistance value in ohms. Through harnessing the power of image processing and color recognition we can digitally read the color bands on a resistor in real time video. The system is then able to tell the user the theoretical value of the resistor along with the relevant tolerances. Combining this with a measurement system we can attain the actual value of the resistor and compare both values to determine if the resistor is acceptable to use or not based on its predefined tolerance. This lays the foundation for a more automated testing system that will increase the efficiency of measuring and validating these components.
