description: Joy is instantaneous, a momentary feeling that has influenced human behavior for millions of years. Architecture and design can bring people joy, but it is often seen as subjective. By applying evolutionary psychology to the design process, we can look beyondcultural associations, to the roots of human emotion. Homo Sapiens experienced the most brain development over one million years ago. Our surroundings, however, have gone through the most change in the last three hundred years. So, our brains are still processing our modern world as if it were the Pleistocene savanna. The end goal of this thesis is to use bus stops as a testing ground for designing ajoyful space that is accessible to everyone, by approaching the design process from scientific reasoning to give us a greater understanding of our need for aesthetic beauty.
